Happy Memorial Day!

I hope you are having a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!  A BIG thank you to all who have served, are serving, and plan to serve our wonderful country – the greatest country in the world!  This includes Dad, PopPop, many great uncles, great-grandparents, and more.  GOD Bless America!

To celebrate, Robert is attending a baseball game!  If you recall, his first baseball game ever was at The University of South Alabama a few weeks ago.  He and Dad took the grand tour of the field and gave the players high-fives.

Today, he’s attending a Mobile Bay Bears game with Dad, Mom, GG and PopPop.  According to Robert, this is a great crew to attend a game with – for a couple of reasons:  (1) If it’s too hot, they’re leaving; And, (2) They insist on loading up on souvenirs and tasty treats at the start of the game.  Well, actually before the first pitch is ever thrown.  That way, if it’s hot and they wish to leave, they’ve lots of memorabilia and full tummies.   Peanuts, hot dogs, nachos, ice cream, hamburgers – they’re ready.  Bring it on.  Robert is ready to chew, too!

Speaking of chewing, Robert has certainly sprouted lots of teeth.  Now, when he smiles, pearly whites just gleam back at you.

Plus, he’s taken to brushing his teeth himself.  During Bath Time, Mom puts toothpaste on his little blue rubber toothbrush and he takes it and starts brushing.  Very impressive.  While doing so, Mom sings Mr. Raffi’s “Brush Your Teeth” song – just to keep his teeth brushing spirits high.

Along with brushing his teeth, Mr. Mister is walking, walking, walking, and then walking some more.  He also enjoys standing.  Moreover, he’s been working with his walking/rolling toys.  He’s not quite mastered these toys he pushes himself.  However, he mentioned that the toys roll best when he runs them around the house while in the walker – such as his approach to his grocery cart.

Notice he’s toting his Cracker Jacks around.  Robert does love a good box of Cracker Jacks.  Not to eat, of course.  Rather, he likes to shake them to get a good beat.  He’s also shown he has great rhythm.  Mr. Man is dancing all of the time!  First, he bounces his head.  Then, he bounces his hips and head together.  Sometimes there’s a shoulder bop thrown in for good measure.  And, if the song is really good, he’ll do jazz hands.  Thus far, few bands have earned such measures, though.

While cruising the house in his walker, Robert has taken to toting around a picture of Granddad, Aunt Lena, and Dad.  Aunt Lena is the Queen of Peek-a-Boo.  And, Granddad is Robert’s Guardian Angel.

We are so thankful for such a wonderful man, father, father-in-law, and grandfather.  He sure loved Robert.

Praise GOD from Whom all blessings flow.

furrily yours,

Melvin Cat

I’m off to the attic.  Even the attic is cooler than the temperatures outside.  Besides, Mom and Dad have stashed a few Christmas presents for Robert, and I want to make sure to cover them in cat fur.  Now is the time – it’s shedding season!

Bon Voyage!  Or, as Robert sings:  “Happy Trails to you / Until we meet again . . . “

Thursday, May 16

Happy Thursday!  It’s been sunny and warm all week.  Perfect weather for some kitty kat sunbathing.

Robert has been so busy walking around the house – usually hand-in-hand with Mom and/or Dad – that he has added an additional nap to his daily routine.  He also mastered the step into his Changing Room (i.e., The Nursery) this week.  When cruising through the house, he always stops at the refrigerator, hits a few buttons on his Leap Frog singing Transportation set thingie, and then gets back to walking.  There’s nothing like a little background music to help perfect your swagger.  And, have I mentioned that he has the “Moves Like Jagger?”  His favored stopping point is the big ole plastic grill.  I, too, love a tasty snack after working out.  In fact, I think I’ll go have a tasty snack right now.

Happy Thursday!

Third Little Franklin – He sure loves his Granddad.

GOD Bless America!  Home of the brave, land of the free.  May GOD guide, guard, and protect the USA.

Praise GOD from Whom all blessings flow!

furrily yours,

Melvin Cat

P.S.:  I will be taking a hiatus until after Memorial Day.  I hope the rest of your May is grand!

Please pray for Granddad.

Hatly.

You know Robert loves a good hat.  He has donned everything from a Fireman cap, to a Cowboy hat, to a Driving Cap, and more.  But, his big ole head full of brains keeps growing.  And, with each new expansion comes a new hat.  So, what better way to keep yourself shaded from the summer sun than a fedora?

Simply smashing.  And shaded.

Beep Beep! (Cozy Coupe Edition)

Robert has taken a rekindled interest in his Cozy Coupe over the past week.  Each day, he and Mom wheel it outside.  Well, he rides in it while Mom eases it over the threshold and into the yard.  From there, Robert and Mom roll into the street, and she runs it up and down in front of the house.  Robert honks the horn, steers the wheel, and waves at passersby.

There’s nothing like a relaxing drive to clear the head.  Mom may be sweaty and out of breath, but Robert is always quite refreshed after a quick drive.

Robert’s Rules of the Road

1.  Keep your hands on the wheel at all times, preferably in the 9 and 3 positions.

2.  Don’t drink and drive.  That includes refreshing water bottles prepared with just the right amount of ice.

Beep Beep! (Refrigerator Edition)

When Robert isn’t toddling around the house, he’s zooming around in his walker.  He used to walk in his walker; now he runs.  As in all homes, most activity occurs in the kitchen.  So, Mom and Dad thought adding a toy to the refrigerator keep him entertained – particularly those times when he’s tired of spoons and Tupperware.  Hence, behold this mix and match 5 car V-Tech set.  Don’t worry – the little frame sings lots and lots of songs.  And, when the cars are added, it sings even more songs.

The Mystery Shopper

You know, I’m not convinced there is such thing as a mystery shopper.  It seems to be a paid endeavor that is only mentioned through solicitation emails – which only appear in Robert’s spam folder.  He showed me a slew of them and asked if I thought it a legitimate offer.  I suggested he not click on the recommended link . . . But, if there were such a thing, Mr. Man would be a top tier mystery shopper.

Each week, he frequents stores all over Mobile with Mom and/or Dad and/or GG.  He knows his way around a store – and is quite the aficionado of all things shopping carts.  Moreover, he interacts with persons in each store he patrons.  And, he holds the shopping list at each store without losing it.  Same with coupons.  And price matching.  He’s quite a seasoned shopper.

Robert has a black belt in shopping.

For instance, last week alone Mr. Man went to the bank several times, the dollar store multiple times, various grocery stores (Winn Dixie and Bruno’s – to name a couple), Target, two spas, Walgreen’s – various locations around Mobile, Best Buy, and to get gas.  And more.  Those listed are all I can recall off of the top of my foggy-headed kitty kat brain.  (Last night involved a lot of catnip).

He’s also quite a good typist.  Better than moi.  You just can’t type many words per minute with kitty kat paws.

Whip It!

Robert loves whipping up tasty treats with his plastic foodstuffs.  And, now equipped with his sock whisk, he’s ready for any culinary request.

Pots & Pans

There is a little gray and green pot and lid in Robert’s Grill Set that he adores.  In fact, last week, he took to carrying this little pot all over with him.  Including while in the walker and running up and down the front porch.

Hot, hot, hot pot!

Robert’s Dance Party (Relaxed Edition)

Robert spends a good bit of time in his Cozy Coupe each day.  Sometimes he has Mom run it up and down the street.  Other times, they explore the yard.  Then, there are those times he wishes to kick back and watch the world go by – from the comfort of his little beep beep.  At those times, he usually kicks up his heels with a water bottle and listens to the litany of jams from Mom’s little music box phone thingie.  He refers to it as his car radio.  But, seeing him so relaxed reminded me of a little ditty:  Monsieur Otis Redding’s “(Sittin’ on) The Dock of the Bay.”  One glance at this snapshot and you’ll see why this song is most fitting:

I can't do what 10 people tell me to do / So I guess I'll remain the same . . Wait. Only Mom is asking me to do something? Nope. Still counts. Remaining the same.

I can’t do what 10 people tell me to do / So I guess I’ll remain the same . . Wait. Only Mom is asking me to do something? Nope. Still counts. Remaining the same.

Sittin’ here resting my bones

And this loneliness [read: MOCKINGBIRD!] won’t leave me alone

It’s two thousand miles  I roamed

Just to make this  dock my home
Now, I’m  just sitting on the dock of the  bay

Watching the tide roll  away

I’m just sitting on the dock  of the bay

Wasting time

I sit on the front porch and waste time.  It’s my pastime.  But, a dock would be nice.
